Taiwan Agrees to Join Expanded ITA Scheme
July 28, 2015

Taiwan has agreed to join WTO's (World Trade Organization) ITA (Information Technology Agreement) expanded tariff elimination program, which will remove tariffs from additional 201 technology products, including semiconductor products, polarizers, LED (Light Emitting Diode) backlight modules, touch panel modules, and components, according to the Commercial Times on July 28. Taiwan will benefit from 136 of the 201 items, saving up to US$800 million worth of tariff, said MOEA (Ministry of Economic Affairs). However, flat panel products are not included in the scheme. Taiwan's government pledged to establish more supporting policies in order to lessen the impact on domestic flat panel vendors. The ITA expanded tariff elimination program will take effect in July 2016 at the earliest.
